ABOUT US

Nukumi Eyewear was created as an affordable option for Edmontonian’s to be able to purchase prescription eyewear from the comfort and safety of their own home. We have worked throughout the pandemic and noticed that some people, especially seniors were spending hours in busy shopping malls, and clinics, taking public transit, all while taking the risk of catching Covid19 or it’s variant’s. Some senior’s would come in and ask if we could deliver the glasses to them but we couldn’t, as it was not a service that the company provided. In fact, It was not a service that any optical company provided. So we saw the need for this service.

The other thing we noticed was the fact that some people would have an eye exam and then spend all that time afterwards shopping for glasses, only to get to the end and not be able to afford the glasses anyway. They would either go home without purchasing and keep the same pair that they have had for the last 6 years or they would settle on a pair that they didn’t like or were inadequate as it was the only option they could afford.  This was our inspiration for creating Nukumi Eyewear.

Nukumi Eyewear has it’s own brand of quality frames that are made with the same quality materials as the big brands. We have chosen materials that we know are durable, easily adjustable, and that we know from experience, will last.  Nukumi Eyewear is a completely mobile optical shop that will come to you, wherever you are. We provide Single Vision, Bifocal, Trifocal, Progressives, Computer lenses, etc. We can work with just about any prescription even complicated prescriptions. We will work with your Eye Care Professionals to provide you with the best vision care possible. COVID19 and now it’s variant’s are creating more barriers for some people to be able to access basic services.  Those who have limited mobility and especially our elders, shouldn’t have to risk their lives or their wallets just to be able to see.

We cater to seniors in Hospice Care, Continuing Care, and Assisted Living Facilities. We have frames for everyone including children and infants. Busy families who would prefer to purchase glasses for their kids in a more relaxed environment such as their own living room. We cater to anyone with special needs, Veterans affairs, Interim Federal Health Program for Newcomers to Canada, Adult / Child Health Benefits, AISH, and Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations and Inuit.

We follow all Covid19 safety protocols. All of our frames, tools, and equipment are disinfected between each patient. We use hand sanitizer, masks, and face shield while taking measurements.

Donate Your Old Glasses or Hearing Aides

Nukumi Eyewear has partnered with Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) to collect eyewear that can be reused or recycled and distributed to people in developing countries

Many people have limited access to eyeglasses in developing countries.  This affects their quality of life and ability to learn and earn a living.  You can donate your old eyeglasses to CLERC who will distribute them directly to people who need them.  Your donation could change someone’s life.

We will collect any eyeglasses or hearing aid donations for CLERC during your appointment.
